How to capture/rip streaming media from the web

The following text is modified based on information from,
http://kuroizero.blogspot.com/2007/12/how-to-capturerip-streaming-media-from.html.

Capturing MMS
To capture the MMS protocol, use SDP (http://sdp.ppona.com). It's a free and fairly simple program to record video sent in WMV format.

Capturing RealMedia

NetTransport (http://www.xi-soft.com) can be used to capture other video formats, such as RealMedia. Note that this NetTransport is not a freeware

Using VLC Media Player
VideoLAN VLC media player is also a good solution (though not so intuitive to begin with) for downloading streaming content which includes both audio and video.

Once installed, use 'open capture device' and 'stream output' options, and in 'settings' use the destination URL, and dump raw input (by default it saves it in the VLC program folder). The rawdump can then be opened with WM Player etc.

Nokia N810

After many days' thinking and research, yesterday, 6/20, I finally placed the order and purchased Nokia N810 from Buy.com.

Here are my reasons to purchase this gadget:
- replacing the aging Palm Zire31 (PIM replacement, GPE, windiz, available)
- needing a (limited function) GPS
- having the portable Skype & media player
- nice to having a portable Linux device

I shall report back after I receive and start using this device
